A higher gauge number indicates a thinner material. For residential, the minimum is 29 gauge, with 26 gauge being suitable but we use 24 gauge on our roofs. So be sure to find out what gauge the roofing company is using to compare apples to apples. You should also look at the decimal thickness or rely on your roofing contractor.
